A lesson to teach, assess or consolidate colours for young children. Start with sharing the poster - sheet 1 and discussing the colours shown. Can children think of things that may be these colours? The next 3 sheets each show two colours, so children can distinguish between these and locate objects that are in each colour e.g a red apple and a yellow crayon. Colours used in the resource are red, green, yellow, blue, pink and orange. Sheet 5 contains the objects seen in all the previous sheets. Children can have a copy of this sheet and locate each of the objects as you share sheets 2,3 and 4. Sheet 6 is a colouring sheet, children recall the colours of the various objects and then colour them in on the worksheet.

Link your topic on Superheroes to your number work with this resource for EYFS and KS1. The first 2 sheets show colour pictures of superheroes from 1 to 10. Children can match these to the numbers at the bottom of the page in words or numerals and / or cut out the pictures and order them. 3 colouring sheets with a theme of animals and /or pets. There are 3 pets, cats, dogs and rabbits. Each sheet shows a colour version of the pictures and a black and white version. Children can choose their own colours, or colour in, to make the pictures the same.

This is a fun activity for young children which requires close observation and number matching. What to do: Show the first page of the quiz to the class or to a group of children. The page shows 15 baby animal parts and each one is numbered. See if children can name the baby animals from the small parts they can see. Give each child a copy of sheet 2, the numbered template. Children can write the name of the animals or draw them next to the correct numbers. Sheet 3 shows the full pictures of the 15 baby animals. Children could mark off the animals as they recognise them from the quiz. Or, they can cut out the pictures and add them to sheet 2 - pasting them onto the correct number squares. The final sheet is a colouring page showing the 15 baby animals.

This activity links phonics and Ourselves encouraging children to apply their phonics knowledge in an engaging way. The resource shows black and white pictures of children playing. Children work out, from the descriptions of the children in the pictures playing, what their names are. They use the initial sounds to help them. They can then cut and match the pictures and words. Once they have correctly identified the names of the children they can colour in the pictures.
